1.1 The purposes of referencing include:
1.1.1 Finding a specific place in a report or book.

1.1.2 Quoting a specific place in a report or book:
An author writes "For example we will later look at the idea that government nets vast incomes from the commercial gains from drinking alcohol." Harrison, Are We Really What We Eat, 2023, Chapter 1.1.1.4 here. His [my] context is Scotland.

Referencing allows you to acknowledge the contribution of other writers and researchers in your work. Any university assignments and publications that draw on the ideas, words or research of other writers must contain citations. Referencing is also a way to give credit to the writers from whom you have borrowed words and ideas.
